Welcome to a new school year!

The new school year has launched and we will soon be experiencing the joy of making music. Thank you for your support, and particularly for encouraging your child to continue their study of music. The investment of time, effort, and energy will produce lifelong dividends.

Evidence continues to focus on the arts and music as a vital component in the positive growth of every child.  For years we have pointed to the music students as those who have demonstrated a special talent.  However, based on extended studies we now know it is the very process of learning music that develops the artistic mind and brings forth the creative potential in all young people.  For this reason, continued membership in a musical ensemble is strongly encouraged and beneficial.

Throughout the year, you will be receiving communications from the AB Bands concerning upcoming concerts and other pertinent information.  For this week, it is important to note that the Instrumental Music Handbook has been passed out to all students.  Please review the current copy of our ABHS Instrumental Music Handbook by CLICKING HERE.  On the first day of school, full copies will be distributed to all freshmen while grades 10-12 will receive an abbreviated version (calendar and commitment form only). The Commitment Form is an assignment that is due on Friday, September 8th (first week of school) for a grade!  Feel free to turn it in early.

It is also important to note that we have a couple fundraising projects throughout the year to help give our students the tools and resources to succeed. A list of these fundraisers can be found by CLICKING HERE. Our biggest fundraiser for the year is the AB Band Booster Auction & Dinner in early November. Please contact our Band Booster Special Events Vice President, Jodi Gunst, for more information or to help out or donate to the cause. Our Kroger Rewards Program is another easy way yo help the AB Bands. Information on that program can be found by CLICKING HERE. Please consider taking part in one or more of these fundraisers.  If you prefer, there is always an option to donation directly to the Anchor Bay Band Boosters to help support our multiple causes. We are a 501c3 organization and a receipt for your taxes will be given upon donation.

Other ways to help include volunteering as a chaperone, ushering at concerts, and volunteering to fill a position when we host MSBOA Band Festival in March. We use the Sign Up Genius website and a link of events and needs can be found on our website by CLICKING HERE.

Social media and this website are both great ways to remain connected and find out information. The website newsroom and calendar will always have the most up to date information on concerts, rehearsals, and events. So stay connected by signing up for our periodic emails at the top right of our home page and using Remind text alerts (text @abbands to 81010). You can also follow the AB Bands on Facebook and Twitter!

It is truly our privilege to have your child as a valued musician in our organization.  Thank you for your support of music education at Anchor Bay HS.  You, as a parent, play an important role in everything we do!

Musically yours,
Mr. Oranchak & Mr. Visnaw
